I am dedicated to making sure our Police Officers in Port Orange are paid what they deserved. I am strongly opposed to "defunding the police." My goal is to ensure Port Orange Police Department is competitive with other agencies in the county, and that means making sure they are among the highest paid, just like they were the last time we negotiated contracts. This is how Port Orange became the second safest city in Florida, and it's the only way that Port Orange remains among the safest in Florida.
As a public official, I take the handling of residents' taxes very seriously. People should not be paying for more than what they are getting. That's why over the last 10 years since I've been on the council, I have been opposed to raising taxes that don't pay for essential services for our citizens. Port Orange has among the lowest property taxes in Volusia County, and it's no coincidence that we are also the premier family-friendly community.
Ensuring that property taxes are low means spending money only where it makes sense. I have spent countless hours working with our City Manager and my colleagues on the City Council looking at programs and projects that don't work and then assessing where they belong in the budget to make sure we aren't haphazardly spending money that would lead to a huge tax increase.
